wB - Activity Assessment Options Screen

webBook will be discontinued from the January 2025 release (version 60.01.200).

Please switch over to Staff Kiosk Assessment > Markbook or Assessment > Enter Results and Comments if you haven't already.

After clicking on the 'Activity Assessment' link for a subject in the 'Assessment Options' screen, the selection screen for the Markbook will be displayed.

This is an example of the 'Activity Assessment Options' screen for the Non-numeric type assessment Markbook example that follows:

This is an example of the 'Activity Assessment Options' screen for the Numeric type assessment Markbook example that follows:

For Class Teachers

If you are a class teacher, the following functionality is available:

  • For each class, determine the Activities/Objectives (criteria) to include in your Markbook in the current reporting period. You will be able to enter raw scores and if necessary, change weightings.
  • For each class, determine the Activities/Objectives (criteria) to include in your Markbook from a past reporting period. You will be able to adjust the weighting but not the raw score for Activities/Objectives from a prior period.
  • Nominate whether to include a 'Final Results' and 'Overall Subject Grade' column in your Markbook.
  • Load your Markbook onto the screen or export it to an existing Excel® template.

For HOD's or Department Administrators

If you are a HOD or Department Administrator, additional functionality is available:

  • Export raw scores for multiple subject classes to an existing Microsoft Excel® template to allow calculation using certain Excel® formulas.
Calculated results can then be uploaded back into the Markbook.

Click here for an Administrator Note.
This field will only be available where the teacher has been set up as a Department HOD (one per department) or a Department Administrator(s) (multiple per department allowed) using TASS.web Student Admin > Student Records > Setup Information > Student Records Setup on the 'Subject Depts' tab.

The selections that you make on the 'Activity Assessment Options' screen are 'sticky'. This means that the program will remember the selections that you made the last time it was used. These selections will become the default the next time the program is used.

Activities in the Current Reporting Period

Select the Activities to assess from [Current Reporting Period]

Activities that contain webBook Objectives are displayed in this panel. You can deselect Activities that you don't want to include in the Markbook or Excel® spreadsheet; however, the normal mode of operation would be to include all Activities.

A coloured panel displays the Objectives that will be available for assessment in the Markbook. This can be used as a visual guide by cross-referencing to the 'Select the Objectives to assess' section on the screen:

Activities that have been set up in Staff Kiosk program Assessment > Learning Objects using 'Standalone' assessment criteria will not be displayed here. These Activities must be assessed through Staff Kiosk program Assessment.

Sort by

Use the 'arrow' icons to determine the order in which your Activities display in the Markbook.

If your method of assessment is to only have one Objective per Activity, then you can use this to 'group' your Activities by Objectives.

Select the Objectives to Assess From [Current Reporting Period]

Assessment Objectives are displayed in this panel. You can deselect Objectives that you don't want to include in your Markbook or Excel® spreadsheet; however, the normal mode of operation would be to include all Objectives.

Activities From the Previous Reporting Period

Select the Activities/Results to Include From [Previous Reporting Period(s)]

Activities that contain webBook Objectives from previous reporting periods are displayed in this panel.

Select the Activities that you want to include in your Markbook.

A coloured panel displays the Objectives that will be included in the Markbook. Unlike Activities in the current reporting period, all Objectives for each Activity that you select will be loaded. You can change the weighting that the Activity/Objective will contribute to the current reporting period if required.

For an Activity to be displayed, there must be at least one student in this class who completed the Activity in the previous period.

Assessing Options

Include Final Results Column

These are the results that will ultimately appear on the students' academic reports.

The default for this option is ticked.

If you intend to load the Markbook onto the screen to enter raw scores, and then to calculate 'Final Results', you would leave this ticked.

You will also need to ensure that appropriate calculation rules are set up in the 'Final Results' column once the Markbook is loaded.

You can override a student's calculated 'Final Result' in the Markbook.

If you intend to use...

Calculation Method 3.

Exporting raw scores to an existing Microsoft Excel® template to allow calculation using certain Excel formulas.

Supported Excel Formulas

This is a list of the Excel formulas that are currently supported by the webBook Progressive Assessment Markbook 'Upload' function.

The tool that is used to facilitate an upload is based on the API/libraries provided by Apache POI V3.9, and which comes bundled as part of your CF11 Server. Therefore the availability and successful operation of these formulas during upload are entirely reliant on this function.

Important!

Before you use any of these formulas extensively in your Excel templates, we strongly recommend that you test a limited upload to check that they function correctly.

This is the Objective(s) that will ultimately appear on the students' academic reports as the subject overall grade.

The default for this option is ticked.

If you are using...

Calculation Method 1.

'Final Results' are calculated based on Activity/Objective raw scores and their weightings. These 'Final Results' are then used to calculate an 'Overall Subject Grade'.

This calculation method supports equal or differential weightings on the 'Final Results' that are used to calculate 'Overall Subject Grade'.

Calculation Method 2.
The calculation of the 'Overall Subject Grade' is based on Activity/Objective raw scores and weightings only. 'Final Results' are ignored and do not contribute to the calculated 'Overall Subject Grade'.

for 'Overall Subject Grade' calculation leave this ticked.

If you are using Calculation Method 2 (ignoring 'Final Results' in the 'Overall Subject Grade' calculation) and the 'Final Results' are not to be printed on academic reports; you may decide to load you Markbook without 'Final Results' selected.

You can override a student's calculated 'Overall Subject Grade' in the Markbook.

and are at the stage of uploading the 'Overall Subject Grade' from your Excel® spreadsheet, then you would leave this ticked so that you can display the Markbook to the screen and then use the 'Upload' function.

Click here for an Administrator Note.

The Objective(s) that will appear in the 'Overall Subject Grade' column for this subject in the Markbook are set up in TASS.web Student Admin > Academic Reporting > Setup Information > Result Formats.

It is important to note that it is possible to set up multiple 'Overall Subject Grades' for a subject. A good example of this is in a year-long Markbook, where there would be two Objectives set up as 'Overall Subject Grades':

  1. Semester Result, and

  2. Year Result.

The Objective(s) for the Overall Subject Grade for this subject must be set up as 'This is one of the Objectives that will be used for the Overall Subject Grade'.

Include all subject classes

This option is available to HODs and Department Administrators only.

It allows for multiple subject classes to be loaded into the Markbook or exported to Excel® with the following constraints:

Load Markbook — Only 'Final Results' and 'Overall Subject Grades' will be loaded (this is because individual subject teachers could have created different Activities and Objectives for their class).

Export to Excel® — All Activities and Objectives for all classes will be exported (you can't use the options in the 'Select the Activities to assess' or the 'Select the Objectives to assess' panels if this is selected).

Regardless of the calculation method that you choose, the raw scores that the students achieve for an Activity need to be entered into the Markbook first.

Markbook Options

The final option on this screen is to choose:

Load Markbook on Screen

You would select this if you are:

  • Using...

    Calculation Method 1.

'Final Results' are calculated based on Activity/Objective raw scores and their weightings. These 'Final Results' are then used to calculate an 'Overall Subject Grade'.

This calculation method supports equal or differential weightings on the 'Final Results' that are used to calculate 'Overall Subject Grade'.

    or
