Users

The programs that users have access to across the different areas of TASS are controlled by a range of permission points. These control which areas of TASS and the portals that users have access to, and also manages whether users have 'view' or 'editing' rights in certain areas.

For example, staff who are managing student enrolments will need to access the enrolment areas within TASS.web, while other staff members do not. Some teachers will need administration access to specific areas within Staff Kiosk, while other teachers will not.

There are three ways to set user permissions in TASS.web:

  1. Assign permissions to individual users.
System Admin > Users > User Maintenance.

  2. Create 'Roles' with appropriate permission points, then assign users to the roles. Each user assigned to a particular role will inherit the permissions from that role.
    a) System Admin > Users > Security Role Permissions - First create and maintain roles
    b) System Admin > Users > Assign Security Roles Assign users to the roles.

  3. Use a combination of both roles and individual permissions for the user.
To do this, follow the instructions in point 2 above and then go back into the System Admin > Users > User Maintenance to enter additional permissions for the user.

Role-based permissions are easier to maintain in the long-term. If a new user needs to be added to the system, he or she can be assigned to a role from which the permissions will be automatically derived. This means that a user can become operational in TASS.web quickly.
