Security Role Permissions

Overview

The ‘Security Role Permissions program allows your school’s TASS.web administrator to add and maintain Security Roles and configure permissions for each role, instead of creating unique permissions for every user in TASS.web System Admin > Users > User Maintenance.

This program can be accessed by navigating to TASS.web System Admin > Users.

School administrators can then assign TASS.web user accounts to these Security Role Groups using TASS.web System Admin > Users > Assign Security Roles.

An example of a Security Role might be:

BUS           Business Manager

FEE            Accounts Receivable

PAY            Accounts Payable

STU            Student Administration

FUN            Fundraising.

Check out the ▶️ System Admin Licensing and Users Video for more information.

Important!

Only users with TASS.web administration permissions can access this program. Schools must establish procedures to control user access for data security purposes.

To obtain user permissions for a specific TASS.web program area or to extend your existing functionality, please contact your school’s TASS.web administrator.

Click here for an Administrator Note.

User Security Permissions

Access to this program is controlled by the ‘User Maintenance’ security point in TASS.web System Admin > Users > User Maintenance or TASS.web System Admin > Users > Security Role Permissions. Contact your school administrator for access.

Creating a New Security Role

To create a new Security Role, click the 'New' button and enter a meaningful code and description.

The ‘User Permissions’ screen lists all TASS.web security points grouped by module in a collapsible panel format.

Information about security points and their access controls is detailed in program articles within the TASS Knowledge Base. If you cannot find details about a specific security point, contact TASS Customer Care for assistance.

Each security point has columns labelled 'View', 'Add', 'Edit', and 'Delete' on the right side of the screen. We call these 'permissions'.

You can select each security point and permission combination for this selected Security Role.

As a quicker alternative, use the 'Fill Down' arrows to assign this user's permissions to all modules or to a single module. Please note that there is a difference between the fill-down icon for all modules and that for a single module.

Example

Click 'Save' to commit this Security Role's profile to the database.

The next step is to assign individual users to this role using TASS.web System Admin > Users > Assign Security Roles.

The TASS.web menu will retrieve menus and permissions for the logged-on user on every refresh/loading of a new program.

The logged-in TASS.web user will not need to log out and log back in to have new permissions applied. This includes new and removed permissions.

Users may have both role-based and individual permissions. The ‘Permissions’ screen in the TASS.web System Admin > Users > User Maintenance program shows role-based permissions by marking them with an 'R'.

From the User Maintenance program, you can also generate a report listing the module, security points, and permissions assigned to all TASS.web user accounts.

Editing an Existing Security Role

To edit a Security Role, select it from the ‘Select a Role’ drop-down list. Then, make any required changes. Refer to the ‘Creating a New Security Role’ section above for more information.

Click 'Save' to commit this Security Role's profile to the database.

To delete a security role, select it from the ‘Select a Role’ drop-down list, then click the ‘Delete’ icon at the top of the screen. You cannot delete a security role if users are assigned to it in TASS.web System Admin > Users > Assign Security Roles.
