Event Categories (Setup)
Overview
The Staff Kiosk Calendar > Event Categories (Setup) program allows you to:
Create new calendar categories (use the 'New' button).
Print a list of existing categories (use the 'Print' button).
Edit existing calendar resources/venues.
Delete existing calendar categories.
Nominate the category that will be used to display calendar events as a weekly description (For example, 'Week 2 Term 1').
Retire old calendar categories.
Review the categories that have been used to schedule Pastoral Care Outcomes.
Categories are a mandatory field when creating events using:
Staff Kiosk Calendar > School Calendar.
Staff Kiosk Calendar > School Calendar (Upload).
Staff Kiosk Events > Events and Payments.
Categories can be used to filter the events that are displayed when viewing the school's calendar in:
Staff Kiosk Calendar > School Calendar
Staff Kiosk Calendar > Daily Notices
Staff Kiosk Calendar > Calendar/Notices (Report)
Staff Kiosk Calendar > Daily Notices (Report)

Event Categories (Setup) Grid
When you access the program, the screen will display a list of the existing event categories.
To sort by a column, click on the column heading. To sort by multiple columns, hold down the 'Shift' key and click the second and subsequent columns.
Grid Column | Description |
---|---|
Number | A number that is auto-generated to identify the category in the database. |
Category Description | The description of the category. |
Week Description Flag | 'Y' indicates that this category will be used to display calendar events as a weekly description (For example, 'Week 2 Term 1'). |
Pastoral Care Outcome | This column indicates which categories are used for Pastoral Care Outcomes. This setup is done in Staff Kiosk Pastoral Care > Outcomes (Setup). Calendar Events must be set up against Categories linked to Pastoral Care Outcomes. This is required before teachers can add Pastoral Care Entries with that Outcome. |
Active | 'Y' indicates that the category is active. 'N' indicates that the category is inactive. |
Action | Click Click Event categories cannot be deleted where they have been used in a calendar event or when they are used to automatically create and link Events and Payments to calendar items in Staff Kiosk Events > Parameters (Setup). |
Adding a New Event Category
Click the 'New' button to display the 'Add Event Category' screen.

Category Number | A number auto-generated by the system to identify the category in the TASS.web database. This field is blank when adding a new category and populates when clicking the ‘Submit New’ button. |
* Category Description | Enter a description for your category up to 30 characters. |
Week Description Flag | Set this field to 'Yes' to indicate that any event entered into the calendar using this category will appear at the very top of the date cell. For example: Week 1 Term 1. Only one category can be set up as the weekly descriptor. |
Active | Where this field has been set to 'Yes', the category will be available when creating new calendar events. Set this field to 'No' to stop this category from being used. |
Select the '+Submit New' button to commit your changes to the TASS.web database.
When editing an existing category, select ‘Save’ to commit your changes to the TASS.web database.
