wB - Assessment Options Screen (Progressive)

From v01.060.01.200, webBook is no longer accessible. The features previously offered by webBook are now available in Staff Kiosk Assessment > Markbook and Enter Results and Comments.

Assessment Options Screen (Progressive) Overview

There are two areas available within webBook to create, assign, manage and assess Activities.

Activity Setup

The following functionality is available when you click on 'Activity Setup' for a subject class:

  • Display a list screen of Activities for a subject class divided into three sections:

    1. Assigned - to the class in the current reporting period

    2. Unassigned - previously assigned to this class in this reporting period but have now been unassigned

    3. Past - assigned to this class in a previous reporting period.

  • Create new assessable and non-assessable Activities for students

  • Attach digital Resources to Activities

  • Assign Activities to subject classes

  • Un-assign Activities to subject classes

The Activities that are assigned to classes through webBook Progressive Assessment will become visible to students through Student Café and (optionally) to parents in Parent Lounge.

Click here for an Administrator Note

To create assessable Activities for a subject, the 'Progressive Assessment Options' in TASS.web Student Admin > Academic Reporting > Setup Information > Result Formats must be enabled for this subject.

If these options are not enabled, the teacher can still create non-assessable Activities (e.g. homework) against subjects and assign them to students.

Activity Assessment

For Class Teachers

If you are a class teacher, the following functionality is available when you click on 'Activity Assessment' for a subject class:

  • For each class, determine the Objectives (criteria) that will be used to mark each Activity (based on a selection of Objectives set up by the academic reporting administrator).

  • For each class, determine the weightings for each Activity/Objective.

  • For each class, enter raw scores for each Activity/Objective in the markbook.

  • Enter Activity comments for students.

  • For each class, Calculate Final Results based on Activity/Objective raw scores and their weightings.

Important!

There is also an option to include Activity raw scores from previous reporting periods (in the current year and/or previous year).

  • For each class, Calculate the Overall Subject Grade(s) based on either:

  • 'Final Results' (with equal or differential weightings). This documentation will refer to this as Calculation Method 1.

Calculation Method 1

'Final Results' are calculated based on Activity/Objective raw scores and their weightings. These 'Final Results' are then used to calculate an 'Overall Subject Grade'.

This calculation method supports equal or differential weightings on the 'Final Results' that are used to calculate 'Overall Subject Grade'.

  • Activity/Objectives raw scores and their weightings (ignoring 'Final Results' in the calculation). This documentation will refer to this as Calculation Method 2.

Calculation Method 2

The calculation of the 'Overall Subject Grade' is based on Activity/Objective raw scores and weightings only. 'Final Results' are ignored and do not contribute to the calculated 'Overall Subject Grade'.

Important!

There is also an option to include Activity raw scores from previous reporting periods (in the current year and/or previous year).

  • Exporting raw scores to an existing Microsoft Excel® template to allow calculation using certain Excel formulas. This documentation will refer to this as Calculation Method 3. Calculated results can then be uploaded back into the markbook.

Calculation Method 3.

Exporting raw scores to an existing Microsoft Excel® template to allow calculation using certain Excel formulas.

Supported Excel Formulas

This is a list of the Excel formulas that are currently supported by the webBook Progressive Assessment Markbook 'Upload' function.

The tool that is used to facilitate an upload is based on the API/libraries provided by Apache POI V3.9, and which comes bundled as part of your CF11 Server. Therefore the availability and successful operation of these formulas during upload are entirely reliant on this function.

Important!

Before you use any of these formulas extensively in your Excel templates, we strongly recommend that you test a limited upload to check that they function correctly.

Further information about Apache POI is available at http://poi.apache.org/index.html

  • Print out the class markbook with detail including:

    • Weightings.

    • Adjusted weightings.

    • Raw scores and calculated 'Final Results' and 'Overall Subject Grade'.

    • Forecasts.

    • Standard deviation and mean.

For HOD's or Department Administrators

If you are a HOD or Department Administrator, additional functionality is available when you click on 'Activity Assessment' for a subject class that belongs to your department:

  • Export raw scores for multiple subject classes to an existing Microsoft Excel® template to allow calculation using certain Excel formulas. Calculated results can then be uploaded back into the markbook.
