Printer Definitions

Overview

This program is used to set up the docket printers used for printing:

Cash sale dockets in program Finance > School Shop > Shop Transactions > Sale Entry.

Late slips, leave passes and returning slips in various Attendance based programs.

There are three options:

  1. Epson Intelligent Docket Printer.

  2. Network Docket Printer.

  3. Other.

For best results when printing, the width of the printer paper should be 80mm.

To add a new printer definition, click the 'New Printer' button.

Click the 'View' or 'Edit' links in the 'Action' column to alter previously configured printers.

Epson Intelligent Docket Printer

An Epson Intelligent Docket Printer must be used by schools that hosts TASS in a Cloud environment.

The certified models are:

  • Epson TM-T88VI-iHUB Intelligent Printer (firmware version 4.44).

  • Epson TM-T88VI (firmware version 1.02).

  • Epson TM-M50II 

Ensure that the EPSON portal has been configured with the following:

  • The 'URL' field under 'Server Direct Print' is set to https://[tassdomain]/tassweb/external/docketprint.cfm

  • Review the 'Interval' setting for your printer. This is how many seconds until the printer polls the server for print jobs.

Print Code

Enter the 'Name' or 'ID' from the fields in the 'Server Direct Print' section of the EPSON portal.

Name/Description

Enter a name for the docket printer, e.g. 'ASR Docket Printer'.

Device

Set this field to 'Epson Intelligent Docket Printer'.

Location

Enter the 'Device ID' from the 'Printer' section of the EPSON portal.

Cash Drawer

This is the command to open the cash draw.

Enter the below line:

Docket Cutter

This is the command to cut the docket slip.

Enter the below lines:

Network Docket Printer

A Network Docket printer is only suitable for schools that host TASS on local servers within the school's network. Cloud-hosted customers must use an Epson intelligent docket printer. 

Ensure the following has been configured:

  • The ColdFusion user account on the TASS.web server has sufficient privileges to print to the shared printer.

  • The Windows desktop computer that the docket printer is connected to has a local user account with the same username and password as the ColdFusion user account.

This local user account only needs to exist on the Windowes desktop computer and does not need to be logged in.

It is highly recommended that you complete a test print from the TASS web server (using the following instructions):

  1. Log into the web server with the ColdFusion user credentials.

  2. Create a text file (using notepad).

  3. Copy the text file to the network printer share using the command prompt, e.g. copy text.txt \\ShopPC\DocketPrinter

  4. Ensure the test print has been successful.

Print Code

Enter a unique code for the docket printer.

Name/Description

Enter a name for the docket printer, e.g. 'ASR Docket Printer'.

Device

Set this field to 'Network Docket Printer'.

Location

Enter the share name of this printer, e.g. \\pcname\sharename

Cash Drawer

This is the command to open the cash draw.

Enter the decimals without spaces, e.g. 027112048123123 (refer to your cash drawer supplier if you are unsure).

Docket Cutter

This is the command to cut the docket slip.

Enter the decimals without spaces, e.g. 027105 (refer to your printer set up guide if you are unsure).

Other

A printer configured using this device type is not supported and will not available when printing in the School Shop and Attendance modules.

If a valid printer is displayed with this device type, the 'Device Type' and corresponding configurations must be updated to either 'Epson Intelligent Docket Printer' or 'Network Docket Printer'.

Company Tab

Use this tab to define the schools/companies that this printer can be used at.

Select the required schools/companies from the 'Unassigned Companies' column and use the 'Selected' and 'All' buttons to move them to the 'Assigned Companies' column.

Companies that you do not have authority/access will appear in grey.
