Academic Comparative Results – Student

Academic Comparative Results (Student) Overview

This program allows you to produce a report that you could use to distribute to parents providing a comparative performance of their child against the totals for all students within a year group.

The program will work effectively when a 5 point scale (e.g. A to E) is used for the subject objective that is to be nominated for the comparison. If the school runs multiple classes for the subject then the comparisons will be based on all students across the year group.

If the school has used a 15 point scale that includes '+' and '-', the calculation program will strip these out in its calculations. Therefore, as an example 3 A+'s, 4 A's and 5 A-'s would equate to 12 A's.

The report can operate as a 'Number of Students' or 'Percentage' comparison.

Your school has to be using the TASS.web 'Academic Reporting' module for this report to work.

Select a 'Year' and 'Term/Semester' from the drop-down menus in the 'Reporting Period Search' screen to view a list of all valid reporting periods for the nominated year and term/semester.

Select a valid reporting period by clicking on the link to view the 'Student Comparison Listing Search' screen.

'Selection Criteria' can be entered into the 'Student Comparison Listing Search' screen to filter the records that are displayed in the report.

Reporting Options

Fields that require further explanation

Subject Result (No. of Students) or Subject Result (Percentage of Students)

This allows you to choose the type of comparison to use:

  1. No. of Students, e.g. Number of A's = 15, number of B's = 20, number of C's = 30, number of D's = 5, number of E's = 30.
  2. Percentile, e.g. A – 15%, B – 40%, C – 20%, D – 20%, E – 5%.

Include Signatory

This is a drop-down list that allows you to pick up the signatories defined in TASS.web program Student Admin > Academic Reporting > Setup Information > Reporting Setup on the 'Reporting Info' tab.

The person's name and title will print on the bottom left-hand corner of the reports.

Include Footer/Message Text

This is a drop-down list that allows you to pick up the Header/Footer text as set up in TASS.web program Student Admin > Academic Reporting > Setup Information > Reporting Setup on the 'Reporting Info' tab.

The text that you choose here will print on the report. An example might be 'Results were accurate at the time of printing'.

Formatting Options

The 'Formatting' panel of this screen allows you to choose the destination of the report. This can be to Adobe® PDF or to view on the screen.

Fields that require further explanation

Exclude Objectives with less than ( ) Records

This allows for the exclusion of comparisons for subjects where the number of students is small. The field defaults to 15 but can be changed.

The report will include the following text:

'*  Due to concerns for privacy, subject data is only provided for subjects containing XX or more students'.

Include Achievement Level Descriptors

Achievement Level Descriptors are set up in TASS.web program Student Admin > Academic Reporting > Setup Information > Objective/Result Comments.

An example might be:

Achievement Level Descriptors

A — achieving well above what is expected.

B — achieving above what is expected.

C — achieving what is expected.

D — achieving some of what is expected.

E — achieving little of what is expected.

Select the 'Next' button to proceed to the 'Student Comparison Listing Subject/Objective Inclusion' screen.

The 'Student Comparison Listing Subject/Objective Inclusion' screen will display a table with the subjects and objectives for the nominated year group.

Tick the checkboxes for the 'Objectives' you wish to have displayed on the report and the comparison to be generated for. The 'Objectives' that you choose for each subject will be the one that the report uses for the comparison (e.g. Overall Grade).

Select the 'GO' button to generate the report.
